youth restiveness

Today the consequences of youth restiveness stare us in the face as they are short and long term. Whichever way, the truth is that youth restiveness and social vices are devastating both to the individual and the society. No doubt, youth restiveness makes the youth to be disabled for their expected role as leaders of tomorrow. They destroy productive lives, potentials, future as well as the social fabrics of the society. In fact, the risks involved are too numerous to be taken for granted. So, it remains a condemnable and unacceptable phenomenon. It is therefore our responsibility to take care of all those who have some skills and those who could not. We have to look for ways of bringing this large army of unemployed youths into the mainstream of society and make them economically and socially viable so that they can become creators of jobs and wealth for themselves and others. Unless we are able to do this, significantly, the consequences may be too great for our communities, society and the nation at large.

The youths remain one of the greatest assets that any community can posses. Potentially, they are the greatest investments for a society’s sustainable development and future. This is why it is universally acknowledged that positive fundamental and meaningful changes across cultural settings are usually engineered, fostered and or shaped by the generation of youths in that society. Therefore any culture or community, whether macro or micro that allows a good percentage of her youths to be misdirected, puts her future survival at risk.

Youth crime is an aspect of crime which receives great attention from the society. Crime committed by young people has risen since the mid-twentieth century, as has most types of crime. The level and types of youth crime can be used by commentators as an indicator of the general state of morality and law and order in a country, and consequently youth crime can be the source of ‘moral panics’.

"The impact of drug abuse among Nigerian youth has been a stigma of a morally bankrupt, decadent and wasted generation that must be revitalized and collectively salvaged together in order to prevent the total degeneration and loss of our societal values and ideals."

Those that give us drugs for fun are not our friends. A drug is neither sweet nor nice in the mouth, why should i take it?
